Are you ready for the iPhone killer? LG Prada coming soon

Monday, March 5th, 2007

When Apple’s iPhone was announced earlier this year the crowd went wild. Then we saw pics of LG Prada’s phone, and they looked surprisingly somewhat similar. With the iPhone launching later this summer, the LG is going to be launched on March 22nd. Owners are going to have to dish out quite a bit, $800 US, for this designer branded touch screen phone. So who will win out? Two big names will be battling it out this summer, and there will only be one big winner. Apple’s OSX inspired touch screen phone, and LG’s Spiffy Prada.

Mobile Feeds and Modules with Netvibes

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Pulling down the most important up to date [or up to the second] is extremely important for certain individuals. Staying at the top of their game, and a top of the current news feeds helps them gain an extreme competitive advantage.

For some time now, I have been searching out the best possible way to manage RSS feeds on mobile devices so I can stay in tune with industry related news the second it drops. Netvibes has recently launched a new mobile service. This new service allows users pull in Netvibes feeds to their mobile devices. Netvibes is a custom Ajax start page that allows you to pull in all important RSS feeds and modules displaying them in one easy to read location in a browser window.

Start the service rolling by logging into your Netvibes account and starting a new “Mobile” tab, dropping in your desired RSS feeds and modules that you would like access to from your mobile device. Choose for notes, to dos, gmail, calendars, weather, and many different types of image and web searches. From your mobile device access http://m.netvibes.com from a browser, this will display your feeds in a plain text format all in one location. No more extensive data usage, or time wasted from visiting multiple locations. The information is displayed in a clean text format that is easy to read, and refresh on your mobile. The service worked so excellent on my Blackberry device when I tested it, that I will continue to use it to receive important information while on the go.

GoogleTalk on Blackberry devices

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

GoogleTalk is now available on Blackberry wireless devices. There is no charge for the download that is available on Blackberry’s website.

RIM had expected that GoogleTalk for their devices would not be ready until springtime, but it looks like its out a little earlier!

With the Google Talk for BlackBerry software, users can access all their Google Talk contacts from their BlackBerry devices. They can determine which contacts are available, unavailable, busy, or offline, as well as carry on several instant messaging conversations at once with their friends.

Google Talk is an instant messaging service that Google introduced last year. The PC version of the service includes VoIP capabilities, although the BlackBerry version does not offer that feature.

Besides Google Talk, RIM is offering a free download of Google Local for Mobile software, which offers directions and maps to local locations and businesses.

RIM Instant Messaging Server

Monday, March 6th, 2006

BlackBerry customers get IM for free through Enterprise Instant Messaging. Research In Motion will update its BlackBerry Enterprise Server platform this week with corporate instant messaging. It will have enhanced administration capabilities, and developer tools that make it easier for firms to build their own links between BlackBerry handhelds and enterprise applications.

The Enterprise Instant Messaging service allows for threaded chat sessions and provides presence information. It can also link to existing corporate IM systems such as Lotus Sametime, Novell GroupWise Messenger, and Microsoft’s Live Communications Server or Windows Messenger.

This feature requires a runtime applet on each BlackBerry handheld, but this can be pushed out the device along with the client-side user interface once the application is published to the BlackBerry Server, according to RIM.

ThinPrint are unveiling the next generation mobile solution, Content Beamer for Blackberry 2.5. Not only can BlackBerry users print their email attachments to bluetooth or network printers; they can also send them via bluetooth or a USB cable to the notebook screen.

The print to screen function lets documents be displayed and saved in original format on the notebook. To do so, Content Beamer for BlackBerry uses a adaptive compression to ensure that no more than 10 KB is sent per page – regardless of the original size of the document.
